Mercer boys soccer bounces back against Pulaski
After losing senior Sterling Shannon in the incident with John Hardin last week, the MCSH boys soccer team responded with an opening night 5-0 drubbing of Pulaski County.
The game was delayed nearly an hour because of engine problems on the Pulaski team’s ride down. The Titans still managed to hit the ground running despite the late start, leading 4-0 by half time.

Titans soccer scrimmage halted early amid insults and injury
Thursday night’s home scrimmage between the MCSH soccer Titans and John Hardin was called off in the middle of the second half when a player was severely injured and tempers flared between fans. Team trainer Todd Davis told The Herald that he signaled for an ambulance for Mercer’s Sterling Shannon after he went down with an injury to his knee.
“You have to make that decision if you can’t move the player or evaluate the injury,” Davis said.
The situation reached a head when the opposing crowds became restless and began antagonizing one another. A player who wished not to be named said the John Hardin players seemed to be cheering after the injury, which drew reactions from parents and players. Davis, the former athletic director for the school district, said the call to end the scrimmage early was the right one.
“The crowds and players were getting upset and had I still been in that position, I would have made the same decision,” Davis said.
The extent of Shannon’s injury or his availability for the season are not known at this time.
